Theo Bradley: Majestic Jerseys and a Life Transformed

In the rolling valleys of Drouin West, Theo Bradley's "Majestic Jerseys" roam, a name that perfectly captures the grace and strength of his cherished herd. A late starter in the dairy industry, Theo was in his early 40s when he and his wife, Anne, poured their perseverance and savings into establishing their farm. Despite being met with hesitation from the bank and countless challenges, they pushed through and started dairying in 2009, learning the ropes one hard-earned lesson at a time.

The first few years were tough, with countless mistakes and financial strain. But with determination and a commitment to building a sustainable operation, Theo's herd began to thrive. He says that he was able to tackle the challenges because he had good people around him.

Theo was a truck driver in Melbourne —a career far from the life he envisioned. He recalls always wanting to farm, he relief milked in his younger days. When the chance finally came in 2008, he seized it, knowing it was now or never. Today, Theo balances farming with his personal wellness journey, making time for fitness at the local Dojo Factory gym, where he finds not only physical health but social connection and balance. He didn’t realise until he was asked by Dairy Australia to appear in an advert with Jonathan Brown that he was carrying extra weight. A few selfies that were requested by Dairy Australia snapped him into action and he immediately stopped eating sugar. Apparently it was nothing for him to smash a block of chocolate or pack of biscuits after a milking.

Reflecting on his journey, Theo finds joy in the "glimmers"—the quiet, fulfilling moments of watching his Jerseys graze peacefully against a picturesque backdrop. Theo is known for laying in the paddock with his golden girls just listening to them eat the grass that he’s proudly gown. While it hasn't always been easy, Theo and Anne have no regrets. He plans to keep farming as long as he can, sharing that it wouldn't surprise him if he’s still milking at 70 - he’s as fit as a fiddle!
